Does Marriage Counseling Work

You may begin to ask, “Does marriage counseling work?” especially if you have been in a relationship that is turning cold and sour. Oftentimes people ask relationship advice from the wrong people which eventually lead them to a bad decision like divorce. Here is a point by point study comparing couple counseling to another confidante.

1)    Counselors vs. Friends/ Relatives
Friends and relatives will often take sides. This is no surprise. It is rare that you will hear a friend side on the other end. Going to a counselor for help is better because counselors do not know you or your partner. He or she will be neutral and fair. The counselor will look at your problem and your relationship from a different angle, from outside the box. Counselors will never judge you and will never ever spread rumors about you and your problems. Sad to say but some friends and relatives do.
2)    Counselors vs. Bartenders
Admit it. You have been to a bar during a break up and confided to a bartender all your problems while taking shots with him or her. Actually, this is not a bad thing. A bartender is also a third person who might be able to ease the pain or make you feel better although that is it. Counselors are not there to make you feel better about yourselves. Counselors are actually there to help you and your partner save your marriage not by giving speculations but by carefully studying your relationship.

So, does marriage counseling work? Yes. Does marriage counseling work even if you are unwilling? No. In short, it is still your choice, your life and your decision.
